Working Together

Al‑Anon and Alateen are mutual support programs for people affected by someone else’s drinking. They can be powerful complements to professional therapy and counseling.

Family members, friends, partners, co-workers, and others struggling with the family disease of alcoholism find a welcoming community where they experience understanding and support.

Alateen is designed specifically for teenagers and includes peer-led meetings supported by trained adult sponsors.

Al‑Anon and Alateen groups are:

  • Peer-led and non-professional
  • Spiritual, but not religious
  • Anonymous and inclusive
  • Apolitical and self-supporting
  • Available in communities throughout the state
  • In person, online, and phone meetings

In a survey of over 15,000 members in 2024, members reported that Al-Anon paired with outside treatment led to greater improvement in their mental health. The survey results were reviewed by a 3rd party research firm. The report is available here.
